Q + A with Lee 'Beef' Bennett

Lee "Beef" Bennett is a skateboarder and artist from the old - school family of Welsh skateboarding. Lee's artwork is controversial, anarchic and hilarious. Displaying the sometimes harsh, sometimes comical world we live in today. Lee's passion for skateboarding is ever present in his artwork along side anti - establishment, retro 80's characters, penises and everything and anything in between.

I've been a big fan of Lee for a while now and been super interested in finding out more about where he gets his inspiration from, opinions on those who maybe offended by his work and of course the man himself.

Snowdonia MTB / UMUK 2018

In September 2018, I loaded up the van and headed up to Snowdonia to support one of my best mate's Trig (Adam Pritchard) in the UMUK 2018 Ultraman competition. I decided head up a few days early to get out on my mountain bike. I had some good adventures and a near death experience before the event.

THE NIGHT BEFORE

The Pritchard's arrived in downtown Betwys y Coed the afternoon before UMUK 2018. Having not seen them all for a while it was good to catch up and go over the race strategies with a few beers. We were given the lowdown by the race organisers and met some of the other athletes. The tension was starting to build for UMUK 2018.

DAY 1 - SWIM

Met by 50 shades of mist, the swim didn't get off to a good start or indeed start at all first thing. But, when it did Trig set off like a young Hasslehoff in rescue and dominated the swim from the start. Matt took a dip in his finest budgie smugglers with Lemmy and I got a sweet boat ride out into Lake Bala with my new mate's Pete and Dave.

DAY 1 - CYCLE

With a healthy lead from the swim, Trig was out on the road quick sharpish for the first stage of the cycle. The course would take us 90 miles around the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Matt and I were gifted with some stunning views as Trig grinded away in the saddle. UMUK day 1 was going well.

Day 2 - Cycle - Part 1

After putting on an ultraman master class in the first day, Trig started the second day in first place. Day 2 would be a long, brutal day in the saddle on this 172 mile, monster course. The day started off well as we made it through the long winding roads of Snowdonia but good things dont always last forever...

Day 2 - Cycle - Part 2

As we reached just over half way in the 172 mile cycle, things were about to go a bit Pete Tong. Most things that could of gone wrong, did go wrong and a series of events turned our race into something from wacky races with the help of cows, the police and us completely losing Trig for almost half an hour. Moo!

Day 3 - Run - Part 1

After an eventful second day, leading into day 3 there were only two athletes in the contention for first place Trig and Matt D. Just a 56 mile run in it. I was also about to have my arse handed to me by dipping my little toe into the world of ultra marathon running and what would be the start of a year - long on going joke. 14.66...

Day 3 - Run - Part 2

The final stage of the run and the concluding part to this epic race over three days. Truly testing the endurance of all the athletes involved. Some more hilarious scenes from Matt Pritchard as he resorted to singing nursery rhymes to his brother who after three brutal days of swimming, cycling and running was feeling the burn.
